The "ARE YOU OK?" installation is a large-scale public design intervention and social awareness project that was displayed in the heart of Budapest from 14 May 2026 for three months at Erzsébet Square, next to Akvárium Klub and the Deák Ferenc Square junction.
The project was delivered by Armadillo Creative Agency on behalf of Hepedy, while the concept and spatial design were created by the TorTer design team. The complete project – from concept development through engineering, manufacturing and on-site installation – was executed entirely in-house through TorTer's integrated design and production workflow.
The concept: "ARE YOU OK?" as a shared social question
In contemporary society, loneliness is often discussed through simplified narratives or gender-based perspectives. In reality, the issue is far more complex. Constant digital connectivity, social media polarisation and changing relationship dynamics have created a new form of invisible isolation that affects people regardless of age or background.
Rather than presenting loneliness as an individual problem, the "ARE YOU OK?" installation reframes it as a shared human experience.
From a distance, the installation clearly forms the question "ARE YOU OK?". Up close, however, visitors discover that the typography is constructed from individually designed bench modules with an open-frame structure.
The installation therefore functions simultaneously as:
- a striking urban landmark,
- a fully usable public seating installation,
- an interactive piece of social design.
Its purpose is simple:
- to encourage people to stop,
- to sit down,
- and to take a moment to reflect.
Visitors are also invited to leave anonymous messages on dedicated surfaces throughout the installation, gradually transforming the project into a collective public diary created by the city itself.
Entirely designed and manufactured by TorTer
One of the defining aspects of the project is that every stage was completed within TorTer's integrated workflow, including:
- concept development and spatial design
- engineering and structural prototyping
- custom furniture manufacturing
- production of installation components
- on-site installation and project execution
The project demonstrates how integrated exhibition stand manufacturing, custom furniture manufacturing and event design expertise can be applied beyond exhibitions to create meaningful public spaces that encourage interaction, dialogue and community engagement.
